This grouchy old man had a big chin, a big nose and a pair of really bushy eyebrows. In fact he was bald too and only had a little hair on the side and back of his head. They are pretty recognizable characters from the Muppet Show, and these two old men never gave anyone a good word.

He definitely reminds me of a lot of old men I have seen on TV and in the movies. And it’s funny that even though he said he thought the show was so bad that he and his friend Waldorf never missed an episode. Hmmmmm?

So if you’d like to dress up in a Statler costume for Halloween that should be pretty easy to do. All you need is a suit or maybe even an old man sweater and pair pants and a Statler mask and no one, at least no Muppets Show fan,  will misunderstand who you are.

And if you want to be the hit of any Halloween party you go to, just get one of your best friends to dress up as Waldorf and the two of you can be ornery and disagreeable all night long. And just what would you do?  Well, you would heckle your friends costumes and give them unhelpful critiques, just like any old man would do.

And if you want to be part of a really good Halloween group costume then you couldn’t go wrong dressing up as part of the Muppet show cast. In fact, get one of your friends to dress up as Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog, Gonzo, Waldorf, or any of the other Muppet show to cast and you guys will have fun all night long.

Waldorf is easy to recognize because of his big round head, well rounded nose, protruding round eyes with loads of circles under them and his bushy white mustache. Not only that, but he is balding with a shock of white hair all around the sides.

And these two guys didn’t think anybody was talented or funny – except themselves. They always took advantage of an easy joke and loved to laugh at their own remarks every night. In fact, the banter between these two old men was one of the funniest parts of the show.

So if you’d like to dress in a Waldorf costume for Halloween it should be pretty easy, all you’ll need is a Waldorf mask and some old man clothes. And if you’d like to have the best costume at the Halloween parties you will attend then you need to find a friend who will dress as your buddy Statler and maybe even a few other members of the Muppet show cast such as Miss Piggy, Fozzy Bear or even Kermit the Frog.

Do you want a Gonzo costume for Halloween?

My son wants his own Gonzo costume this year for Halloween! In fact, I plan on making one of my own for him this year and I’ll share my plans for making this Halloween costume with you below.

One of his favorite shows when he was a small child was The Muppets which aired on ABC and then on Nickelodeon and boy did he absolutely love it! He would watch and imitate the show every single day for my family, friends, and relatives who were a great audience.

Heck, he would even imitate Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy at supermarkets when he had an audience. In fact, he was so in love with all the characters that he even chose to dress up as one of them for costume parties, my birthday and even for New Years.

Each year he chose a particular character whether it was Kermit, Fozzy Bear, Miss Piggy, etc. But I have to admit that the one character that just made him smile like an idiot for hours, the one who could even boost my sour moods if I saw his long nose and blue outfit anywhere and anytime of the day was surely Gonzo! His desire to dress like Gonzo extended for a very long time since he practically grew out of his obsession and started wearing more sophisticated costumes for Halloween.

But this year I started remembering his childhood and especially the Muppet’s and realized just how much he enjoyed dressing like them as a child. So, it is now the beginning of September and I have decided that I am going to help my son be Gonzo for Halloween!

I’ve been working on his Gonzo costume for a few days now but a lot of work still has to be done. After looking through magazines and many episodes of the show I came down to the idea of Gonzo as a rock star. First of all I went to my local fabric store for ideas – then I chose loose cut jeans with many holes in the knees, tennis shoes which are worn out, and believe it or not, even a tie on a huge white t-shirt. The tie will be black and on the back “Gonzo is a rock star” will be imprinted.

The hardest part is creating the Gonzo mask or Gonzo face because I do not want his face to show at all; he’s paying a tribute to his favorite character here isn’t he?

My Gonzo mask is going to be made of soft blue foam which is available in my local craft store, all I have to do is create a shape of a bird – which Gonzo is, and make the long famous nose he has with his eerie eyes, and big pink mouth.

In order for him to breathe, holes in the front part of the nose will be made as well as for the mouth, I’m lucky because my sister is a designer and is fond of arts and crafts, this way my Gonzo costume will be perfect. But if the worst thing happens and she can’t make it for me I know that I can always buy a nice Gonzo mask online if I need to so I do have a backup plan.

The accessories I’m going to use for my Gonzo costume will be hard-core metal bracelets, maybe a rocker looking jacket and he’s also thinking of carrying a fake electric guitar so he can sing for everyone at the party in the same way Gonzo would with his funny hoarse voice.

Gonzo is considered a weirdo so he is also going to act like a goof with everyone at the party, asking stupid questions and making cheesy compliments and comments – it’s all part of the act! I definitely can’t wait for Halloween because I know that his Gonzo costume is going to be unforgettable.

And I’m thinking I could have a lot of fun dressing up in a Fozzie Bear costume as he has a lot of room for the design, a lot of style and loads of corny jokes.

I decided to take another look at Fozzie Bear for Halloween. I saw a picture online that shows someone dressed up in a Fozzie Bear Halloween costume.

There’s even an actual head piece and a fuzzy top with paws that you can buy. In the picture I looked at earlier the person dressed as Fozzie Bear is only wearing pants for a bottom, that’s definitely easy enough.

I really wasn’t trying to spend a lot of money. I have to admit though, Fozzie’s nothing but a fuzzy suit with a tie, small hat and a pink round nose. A Fozzie Bear costume might be easier to put together.

My uncle has an old pork pie style hat kind of like Fozzie’s that I bet I could borrow for my costume. Also, I’m thinking about maybe going to see the fabric samples at Joanne’s fabrics to price the fur for his outfit. Fozzie Bear is adorable but my first thought is that I would need a lot of furry fabric.

For the eyes I could rig something out of ping pong ball halves, that’s how Jim Henson made the original Kermit the frog you know. Might need some felt for eyelids, but I forget if Fozzie Bear has brown or pink eyelids, I know Gonzo has purplish blue ones. I could even buy a Fozzie Bear mask to wear if I wanted to.

Clothes are easy after that as Fozzie Bear doesn’t usually wear any, but wouldn’t it be fun to grab a hawaiian shirt to recreate an episode of the Muppet show with?

Maybe I could sweet talk a friend into going dressed up as well as one of the Muppets too. She totally could be Gonzo as she can almost do the goofy sounding voice.

If I got a couple of small pillows I could make my Fozzie Bear costume belly stick out more than my own too. Then I wouldn’t get so warm, because we all know how hot fuzzy fur can be. For the bow tie, my friend Nikki who is a wonder at bows can help me by making it super fluffed out.

And if I went with a brownish sweat suit instead of fur and simply made a headdress and hands and boot covers, this outfit could be a little more cost effective for me. But what else could I do to make my Fozzie Bear costume the best?

I could always buy a Fozzie Bear costume premade. If I did that it might not save me as much money but it would certainly save me a lot of time and effort and it would be exactly what I wanted the end product to be – a Fozzie Bear costume.

And it would also be something that I could use over and over again and at other parties in the future too. Heck, I could even dress up my kid in a toddler Fozzie Bear costume if that’s what he wanted.

Hmmmm, so, I think this might be the route I go for this year after all! Happy Halloween. Wocka, Wocka, Wocka!”

You will also need to buy gloves which reach to your elbows. The gloves need to be white in color.

As far as facial makeup requires you to put a slight pink shade by applying a little bit of red or pink colored rouge around your cheeks.

You can also purchase a pig’s snout from any costume store near you. The snout is generally made in plastic and can be fastened over your nose by means of an elastic band which goes around the back of your head (and is concealed by your hair).

You also need to purchase a blonde or golden colored wig. The wig should be curly and no longer than shoulder length. For piggy’s ears, you can get one of those hair bands with attached plastic pig ears. Make sure that you conceal your real ears under your hair or the wig.

Other accessories include buying a white pearl necklace. You can buy one of these made of plastic from a store which sells trinkets and other jewelry. Buying one in plastic is much cheaper and economical too.

And as for the footwear, purchase a pair of fancy red colored heels to finish out your  Miss Piggy Muppet Costume. Finally, Miss Piggy also wore a small tiara too and if you wish you can purchase one too in a silver color to wear as a part of your ultimate Miss Piggy costume.

Let me tell you how my best friend dressed up as a Muppet last Halloween. She dressed up in a Miss Piggy costume – with a twist. Her outfit, which included the red gown, white gloves, white pearl necklace and red heels, were the same as described above.

But instead of buying the plastic snout and the ear hair band she decided to go for a creepier look since it was Halloween after all. She purchased a creepy, deformed pig mask which also included hair attached to it. The mask was made out of rubber and though it was slightly uncomfortable, the idea was very, very unique.

Her costume was not only well received, but also helped her bag the prize for the best costume at the party that we went to.

So now you too can choose to dress up as any of the Muppet characters, that is, Kermit the frog (preferable for men) or Miss Piggy (preferable for women), Animal, Fozzie Bear or any of the others. It’s up to you. Have fun!

The most popular Muppet is Kermit the Frog. To dress up as Kermit, your outfit includes wearing a suit. You can wear a white shirt and black pants.

Wear a black colored blazer on top of the shirt. Make sure the blazer and the pants are shiny and glossy. Not only does the shiny look add to the overall appearance of Kermit , but also grabs attention from the people around you.

Next is to purchase a Kermit mask. The mask is easily available at any  toys store or a costume store. The mask can be of two types. One is the rubber mask and the other is the cloth mask.

In most cases, say werewolf masks or other masks, the rubber mask usually gives a more real look but this might not be the case if you are buying a Kermit mask. The cloth mask might be most appropriate but you can always choose from what is easily available too.

You will need a bow tie around your neck too. The bow tie has to be green in color. You will also have to wear gloves on your hands. The gloves have to be green again but if you can’t find green gloves you can always use green makeup.

As for the footwear, you can buy a green pair of flippers. Flippers are the things that scuba divers wear on their feet while diving. Flippers can be expensive and uneasy to wear for a longer time and so you can also opt to go for a black pair of office shoes.

And one last thing – if you want to dress your toddler up in a matching costume you can do that now too. There are even Kermit the Frog Toddler Costumes available.

Now you can dress up as adult Kermit and your baby can be your little Kermit the Frog tadpole. Talk about cute! And you’d certainly be the best dressed amphibians at the party too – I’ll bet you’d probably even win the award for best costumes.

He is the most fun, exciting and wild of all the Muppet characters. Not to mention he is as cute as can be – so I want a Muppets Animal Costume for Halloween.

Here are a few tips if I were to make my own Animal Muppets  Costume. First I would sew a tight fitting cap from plain white cotton material that I could tie under my neck. Then I would cut long pieces of orange and pink yarn, about ten or eleven inches long and sew them to the cap to imitate animal’s long crazy hair. I would also cut out a strip of the same cotton material about four inches by one inch in size and sew yarn approximately two inches long to it and use costume paste to glue it above my top lip for added facial hair.

Many items for a Muppets Animal Costume can be purchased from a costume store too if you wanted to do this. Big bushy black eyebrows could be purchased and pasted in place with costume glue. Vampire teeth would be perfect to create the illusion of that awesome under bite that animal so proudly sports by using the top of the vampire teeth on my bottom teeth. You could even purchase a Muppets Animal mask if you wanted and ignore all of these steps!

A pair of bulging eyes eye glasses from a gag shop would give this Animal halloween costume that authentic Muppets look and a simple, big, red clown nose made from a sponge would make a perfect match for Animal’s big, bulbous nose.

For clothing, an old black t-shirt with a heavy metal band from about 20 years ago, cut off at the waist and a pair of jeans, shredded all over and at the ankles too. I would also add a few holes here and there in the shirt and jeans and of course, my Animal Muppet outfit wouldn’t be complete without animal’s signature rope belt around the waist of his pants. This could be picked up at any local hardware or home store.

I would also color my arms, legs, mid-section, and any part of my face that wasn’t covered with orange body paint or a dried drink mix, like kool-aid. Now Kool-aid is cheaper and easier to find than body paint, but it is also much harder to remove. To use kool-aid, I would simply moisten the dry mix and rub it on my skin with a soft cloth or sponge. Otherwise follow the directions on the makeup you buy.

I would then add a large spiked dog collar around the neck with a broken chain about one and a half foot long hanging down the front of the shirt. A couple of black leather studded bracelets and maybe one around the ankle would add a nice touch to my Muppet Animal costume.

Animal is always barefoot, so a couple pieces of yarn, about one inch strands of dark yarn, would be an awesome addition glued to each big toe with costume glue and maybe even on a couple of fingers. Then to top it all off, I would add a couple of drumsticks or maybe even an inflatable bongo drum to carry around for the evening, and my Muppets Animal costume would be complete!
